What has Jesus done for you?
What has Jesus done for you? In a region of the Gerasenes, Jesus met a man who was naked, lived among tombs, cried out, cut himself and couldn’t be chained anymore. He didn’t even have his own words, he called himself “’Legion,’ … because many demons had gone into him … they begged [Jesus] repeatedly”. (Luke 8:30–31) His humanity had been stripped away. He was more like an animal, but a self-harming one at that. That is an example of Satan’s hand on a person in the highest order.
The scriptures tell us that there is a spiritual world and that Jesus has complete authority in it. Some people doubt this and believe that all that exists is matter. Others pay too much attention to the spiritual world and think every second object is spiritual—they are always looking to perform an exorcism and blame every event on the Devil. The truth is somewhere in the middle. There is a spiritual world but we are also very capable of being carried away by our own desire without any help from evil spiritual forces.
What was Jesus’ impact on that man’s life? After he met Jesus we read that he was “sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed and in his right mind” (Luke 8:35). He was cured, he wanted to go with Jesus, he obeyed Jesus and shared his story with everyone in his hometown. He was delivered from Satan’s power and eternally saved on that day. He was no longer heading for destruction, but a saint, heading for eternity with Jesus.
In one day his life was turned upside down, no, right side up by Jesus. Over a short or long time what has Jesus done for you?
